Junior Academy Training Schedule

Parents and Players,

Welcome to the 2016 Braintree Travel Soccer Junior Academy season.

Once again we have been hard at work making improvements to the program that the kids will find fun and enjoyable - leading to what we hope will be a lifetime enjoyment of soccer. I am writing to provide you with the information you will need for this season. Please take a moment to read this email in its entirety.

1. The training schedule for Junior Academy players is shown below. Further, all schedule information and announcements will be available the BYS website, at when available. Junior Academy players will have 5 days of indoor training at the Hollis School beginning Sunday, February 21st. Training will last for 50 minutes in total and will begin precisely on the hour between 8 AM and 5 PM. Times are TBD. Dates are as follows:

All INDOOR TRAINING SESSIONS are on Sundays in the Hollis School gymnasium
  • 2/21/16
  • 2/28/16
  • 3/6/16
  • 3/13/16
  • 3/20/16
All OUTDOOR GAMES will be played at East Middle School on:
  • 4/3/16
  • 4/10/16
  • 4/17/16
  • 4/24/16
  • 5/1/16
  • 5/8/16
  • 5/15/16
  • 5/22/16
  • 6/5/16 will be used as a make up date if it was necessary to cancel games due to weather.
  • 6/12/16 The final Braintree Cup jamboree!

2. Each player will be assigned a training hour for these training sessions. Unfortunately we cannot entertain requests for players to attend an alternative training sessions. The reason for this is that the gym space is rather confined. We do our best to keep the player to instructor ratio at a number that is conducive to the enjoyment of all the children in the gym at the time.

3. If an additional training session becomes be available, coaches will notify players of such opportunities which will also be posted on our website.

4. Please condition yourselves to check email for updates from the league and from coaches. Our coaches are dedicated volunteers, many of whom prefer group emails to correspond with players. This maximizes the amount of time they can spend on the field and makes their life easier. Please do your best to accommodate them, as they have many players to be concerned about. We try not to "spam" you with emails. In addition to communications from your coach, you might receive one or two emails per week from the league with pertinent information about the season. Please email Registrar Deb McMartin at if you are not receiving these important updates.

5. During our indoor training sessions, we are asking parents to stay outside the gymnasium at Hollis. Space is a bit tight and must be used for the players and to reduce clutter that slows down training sessions. Please follow this instruction. Siblings are absolutely prohibited from the gym.

6. Each player should come to training sessions prepared. Soccer players wear shorts and t-shirts. Eventually they will receive a uniform and should wear the complete uniform to pre-season training as well as their outdoor training and game dates. Each player should also wear shin guards (this is mandatory). Each player should come to training with a ball (size 4 is appropriate for their level of play), and a drink.

7. All gear, drinks, and other personal items must also be kept outside the gym during training sessions. Otherwise, drinks spill and equipment clutters the training environment.

8. Please remember that all coaches and directors are volunteers. Referees are often-times younger players on more advanced teams in our travel program. Please be sure they are treated with the respect they deserve for volunteering their extra time for your child. There is an absolute zero tolerance for any spectator, coach, or player that is disrespectful to a referee, a coach, or another player. Please refer to the rules of play and the Zero Tolerance Policy on the BYS website for additional information. Also, please be advised that the four fields we play on have designated sidelines. As the fields are parallel to one another, coaches, players, referees, BYS staff and other CORI'd individuals will be stationed in the middle section of the fields...parents, siblings, and other family members can ONLY BE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDELINE! No one can be behind the nets, or on the BYS side for safety and security reasons.

9. Your concerns can be brought to the attention of myself, or any one of our junior academy directors. Email addresses for each of these directors will be released with the training schedule.

10. Our first four training sessions this season will be run by the staff from Advantage Soccer, with the final session being led by the individual coaches. You can read more about this organization at

11. Junior Academy games will begin as early as 8 AM and be done by as late as 1 PM on Sundays beginning in April. The schedule will be released at a date to be determined. It will be posted to our website as well. The season ends in June with our Braintree Cup Jamboree celebration and party. This is a fantastic event. More details to come as we approach this date.

Thank you,

Monday December 28, 2015 - 2016 Junior Academy Registration is now open

Junior Academy Info

The Junior Academy (JA) is Braintree Travel Soccer's development program for our U8 players who are not yet old enough to play competitive travel soccer. U8 is the designation for players aged 8 and under. We follow the USYSA age grouping for travel soccer. Generally, the U8s are 1st and 2nd graders. Registration Fee: $75.

This is the BEST DEAL IN TOWN! The fee includes indoor training during the winter with professional instructors, full uniform, competitive games in April and May at East Middle School and a Season Ending Jamboree. Please note, there are no sibling discounts for Junior Academy.

JA begins with indoor training in February and March. Training sessions are usually divided into 1 hour time slots, by school and by gender. The final schedule for these dates will be available in early February after we have a more accurate count of players.

The outdoor season runs on Sundays from late March/early April through May. It concludes the first weekend in June with the very popular Soccer Jamboree.

While the Junior Academy is a program run by Braintree Travel Soccer, all training takes place in Braintree school gyms and games are played on Sundays in Braintree against other Braintree JA Teams. There is no travel involved at this level.

Volunteers are needed. Please consider volunteering as a coach, assistant coach or field crew.

Any questions can be emailed to

Registration Deadline is February 1, 2016

2. Click the button below to begin.

4. When asked for Grade and School, please use the grade and school that the player is ENTERING IN SEPTEMBER. (not their current grade!)

ANNOUNCEMENT: High School Open Division

Braintree Youth Soccer is Happy and Excited to announce that beginning fall of 2015 (this September) we will be offering a new pilot program:

A Co-Ed High School Open Division

The New Co-Ed High School Open division will be open to all high school players that are NOT playing in a High School Soccer Program. Games will be played on Saturday mornings and run September and October. This will be a recreational Co-Ed program and fantastic opportunity to continue playing soccer in a fun environment.

Register today at :

Hope to see many of you on the pitch this Fall!!!

This will be a Co-ed division and is open to any High School age player NOT playing on a high school soccer team, and is a Braintree resident (but can attend a High School outside of Braintree).

The objective of this new division is to give high school aged kids an opportunity to play a sport that most have played for years, and have enjoyed playing, in a recreational atmosphere. This will be a great opportunity for kids who just want to play the game in a fun, friendly, competitive environment.

We have been working on getting the word out regarding this new division, and we have been approached with many different questions and concerns, here are the three we have been asked numerous times:

1. My son/daughter is trying out for a high school soccer team, if he/she does not make it will they be able to play in this division:
YES, for players trying out for soccer team they will be able to register right after tryouts.

2. How will the increased High School time commitments factor in my son/daughter decision to play in a recreational soccer division:
An abundance of free time is not something most high school students have to worry about, with so many other sports or clubs and increased workload. Knowing that, this High School open division will not have practices, and our goal is to play on Saturday morning and be done by noon.

3. Will this be a pick-up league, where a ball is rolled out on to the field and the first 22 players kind of run the game?:
NO, this division will be similar to the grade 7/8 division, but we are looking at different set ups to make it more interesting for the players. We will have referees, and we will have team managers. The responsibility of the team manager will be to get the kids set up, and attempt to keep the playing time equal amongst the players.
